Joesph “Pops” R. Derbeck, 84 of Temperance, Mi died Friday April 6, 2018 peacefully in his home. He was born on March 7, 1934 in Erie, Mi to Willam and Mary (Walerius) Derbeck. Joe married Joyce Van Pelt on July 10, 1993 in Erie, Mi. He was previously employed by Michigan Laborers Union Local 465 as a Bricklayer. He was one of the workers that constructed Monroe County Community College. Under the union he worked at Consumers Power Plant and Fermi. After retirement he remained active working with his sons Joe and Chuck in the flooring business. His greatest joys was his family and grandchildren. His home was a frequent gathering place for family and friends alike. He did not know a stranger, he made friends every where he went. He was a race car driver at Toledo Speedway. He was a member of the pit crew for his son Joe for many years and he also supported and enjoyed watching his son Chuck race cars as well both at Oakshade Raceway. He was a huge fan of the Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved the outdoors. He spent many hours in his garage working and tinkering on just about anything. He was frequently seen on his scooter or golf cart. Everyone knew him and waved and tooted their horns to say “Hi Pops”. He would frequent Vienna Park, where he enjoyed watching the disc golfers. |
